Despite not even being a true high school player yet, the 2025 dual forward is making very big waves across the national landscape. While the majority of the country has not even taken the slightest glimpse at prospects in the 2025 class, they will soon be forced to get acquainted with Peat’s skillset.

During the prestigious and highly competitive Pangos All-American Camp, organized by Dinos Trigonis, Peat was invited as 1 of 6 players outside of the 2022 and 2023 classes and the only member of the 2025 class. While his age at an event like this would typically mean his play would defer to upperclassmen, Peat took another angle and pushed the envelope by producing at a very high level. He scored 20 points in one outing while shooting an ultra-efficient 9-10 from the floor.

His production was not simply the by-product of induced-spacing as a direct result of gravity-heavy ballhandlers, but rather a skillful ability to create his own shot at this stage of the game. Peat not only showed up the event ready to compete, but was able to seize the opportunity to cast his name amongst the top players in the class for years to come. His development from this point forward is being carefully monitored and guided by one of the deepest grassroots programs in the country, the Compton Magic, who are notable for sending players en masse to the Division 1 level and beyond to the NBA.

Peat’s play at Pangos should be filed as an expectation of what’s to come rather than even the slightest consideration as a ‘one-off’. His talents already show to be well-rounded and he carries tremendous versatility on both ends of the floor to be an impact player now and even better in the not too distant future.

Creativity in Close Quarters

Already a prime offensive weapon for his grassroots team, Peat displays flexibility working in offensive systems with other stars present. Due to playing within the smaller confines of a stout offensive cast, he has already developed the ability to read the floor and establish effective starting position to receive the ball. As a result of this keen surveillance on Peat’s end, he’s comfortably adapted his offensive game for any position on the court.

While Peat also possesses an arsenal of traits to score well on the move, his knack for maneuvering crowded spaces may top them all. With the ball in his hands Peat processes player movement and play development at a high rate, allowing for timely initiation of his moves. His patience in these situations immediately heightens his ability to predict defensive rotations and effectively navigate traffic off-the-dribble.

His strong, explosive first step reduces space to his man increasing the freedom and time to mentally plan out his moves before defenders recover back into the play. Opposing teams mistakenly grant him the opportunity to play 1v1 against his primary defenders too often. This results in Peat making his way downhill until too much ground has been gained for effective rotational recovery to adequately contest his shots.

Once his man begins to body him and exhibit more physicality, Peat turns on the quick agility moves (spins off defenders, step-backs, crossovers, etc) to stay one step ahead and finish plays.

Peat shows patience after receiving the ball at the right elbow. He allows the traffic to clear and then explodes to the rim before finishing through contact.

Peat receives the ball at the free throw line and notices he has a smaller and quicker defender lined up against him. While the matchup is not ideal, Peat manages to make a quick dribble to the left to draw in his man and spins back to the right to try and finish at the rim. While the shot doesn’t go in, Peat sticks with the play and grabs the offensive rebound before attacking again and earning a trip to the free throw line.

Peat receives the inbounds pass and squares up to his defender. Noticing that he’s alone and his attack angle via the baseline is not ideal, he initiates contact with the defender and begins to back him down slightly towards the middle of the floor. When he feels comfortable with his progress, he spins baseline and is able to elevate over his defender to nail the jumper.

Matchup Nightmare

Peat’s ability to navigate traffic and present himself as an efficient and consistent weapon inside enables him to set up shop on the perimeter as well. Defenses are more apt to let him catch the ball further from the basket believing they have time to recover once he attempts to score around the paint. However, Peat has too many offensive weapons and defenses soon find out how they choose to play him is more about choosing which skillset they want to live with rather than locking him up all game long.

His effectiveness extends to the perimeter, because he features comfortable range to make defenses pay for giving him space. Peat does a great job of maintaining his rhythm on these attempts to maximize his efficiency on these shots. As if his ability to knockdown perimeter attempts at a strong clip and propensity for completing plays in and around the paint don’t make Peat dangerous enough, the extra space provided on the perimeter only allows him to increase his creativity off the dribble.

Specifically, Peat features a difficult combination of traits to guard. He has a strong first step and can easily gain ground on his primary defenders within his first dribble. However, his added physicality and height allow for him to create and visualize scoring opportunities further increasing his mismatch potential on the perimeter. Add in his implementation of good footwork and handling the ball in tight spaces, Peat can produce his own looks from anywhere on the court and against any defender.

These collective options within his game make him a nightmare to guard for opposing teams, but also enable increased offensive flow for his own team. Peat’s skillset opens the game to another level for his squad to produce.

Peat smoothly steps into a 3 after squaring his feet and shoulders.

Peat is able to again square his frame to the basket and smoothly launch from 3 without hesitation.

Peat receives the ball on the left wing and slyly assesses the defenses before exploding baseline to score at the rim.

Peat catches the ball on the left wing with a lot of space to utilize. He attacks his man off-the-dribble, draws contact without losing his momentum and is able to step-back to convert a mid-range jumper while drawing the foul.

Peat seals off his man to grab the defensive rebound and is able to put the ball on the floor to initiate the offense himself. With his man trailing, Peat moves through multiple defenders, using numerous crossover dribbles, and accelerates to attack the lane showing good touch on his shot.

Island Defender

Peat’s athleticism also translates very well to the defensive end of the floor. His size and lateral quickness allow for him to guard multiple positions effectively and enables his team to utilize various lineups to control the momentum of a game. He maintains good post discipline to anchor the paint in smaller lineups and reads the ball off the rim well to eliminate second-chance opportunities. His success in guarding players on the block helps to force bigs further away from the rim to feel like they can comfortably get shots off against him.

This level of discipline and impact at this stage of his development is impressive, but it works just as well against guards too. Most ball-handlers try to take him off the dribble and get to the rim, however Peat’s footwork and ground covered is enough to deter these moves. Guards and wings are better suited to switching to other defenders via the pick-and-roll to garner better looks. As ball-handlers look to attack him on the ground, they must revert to off-balance jumpers or utilize less space than desired.

As Peat can mentally affect their decision making in this way, he also displays excellent ability to change directions defensively to recover against these moves and impart his big frame into the path of the shooter’s intended arc. As a result, many shooters are required to make micro-adjustments in the air that end in misses. These collective traits allow his teammates to confidently leave him guarding ball-handlers by himself.

Peat switches off of his man onto the attacking ball-handler. As the ball is moved to another offensive player, Peat takes note of this and is able to shift over to provide baseline help to further disrupt the play and create a difficult shot attempt.

Peat recognizes the big releasing from the screen and rolling into a large open space.
