Yet, some prospects have already been making a lot of noise
in grassroots tournaments and camps to merit immediate attention. 8th
grader Keeley Parks has repeatedly displayed her refined abilities on the floor
against players 1-3 years her senior and more than held her own on every occasion.
It’s not common for a lot of players at this age to show a developed repertoire
of skills to dominate competition, but Parks is excelling at it.

It’s equally as rare
for Division 1 basketball programs to hand out offers to players at this stage
of the game. However, Parks has received plenty of interest from universities from
college basketball’s top tier. In fact, she has heard from over 20 programs
already with double-digit scholarship offers under her belt.

Offers: Arkansas, Kansas, Kansas State, Ohio State,
Oklahoma, Texas Christian, Texas-Arlington, Tulsa, Vanderbilt and Wichita State

Interests: Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Iowa State, Louisville,
Nebraska, Stanford, Texas Tech, UCLA and Washington

Seeing any highlight reel quickly explains why she has received such significant interest at this point in her prep career. She’s making plays on both ends of the floor at a consistently high rate and utilizes a lot of quick-hitting or combination moves to beat defenders one-on-one. However, moving through full game film illuminates Parks impact is significantly bigger than just simply scoring the ball. Instead they’re the kind of overall contributions that will merit continued and expanded interests from the top programs in college basketball.

Offensive Creativity + Ballhandling

As is the case in any of her game film, it’s incredibly hard
to ignore Parks impact and prevalence scoring the ball. She gets the job done
from all three levels and is constantly attacking the defense for better
position. She’s an unselfish teammate and bides her time well before testing
potential defensive weak spots.

Her jump shot is well established and can repeatedly hurt opponents throughout the game, but other areas of her repertoire produce better and more reliable scoring chances for her team. Specifically, Parks features a great combination of size, speed and aggression to reach the rim and force the defense to chase. It’s her ball-handling and creativity on the court that allow for this aspect of her game to become noticeable.

Parks plays with a high IQ level and is able to quickly recognize events developing on the floor. Due to her presence and skillset, teams often seek to stop her penetration to various areas of the offensive end, but Parks fluidly creates paths of least resistance with her ball-handling and ability to avoid traps. She is a natural setup artist and won’t force the issue if numbers are against her attack. Instead she works to lull defenses to sleep, before utilizing her arsenal of crossover moves and slipperiness in traffic to beat her man and keep plays alive.

Keeley attacks off the handoff, changes directions and accelerates to the rim with contact.

Keeley searches for a lane to penetrate the interior of the defense, draws multiple defenders on the perimeter, splits the triple team for an off-balance layup

Keeley leads the breakaway, wisely pulls the ball out without numbers, and re-attacks once her defender has relaxed on the perimeter for a layup.

Court Vision + Facilitator

A direct downstream effect of Parks ability to knife through
defenses and penetrate the lane is uncovering her outstanding court vision. Whether
it’s on the fast break or out of a halfcourt set, getting into the middle of
the defense usually results in positive plays for the offensive team. Parks has
an incredibly high rate of success, not only in getting to this area of the
court off the dribble, but in making the ‘right’ basketball play once she’s
there. Her gravity with the ball in her hands is so significant that she
creates multiple scoring options just by beating the first line defensively.

She doesn’t force the issue shooting, even with a foot
inside the paint, and manages to keep accurate positional memory of where her
teammates are located. Her eyes are always looking up at the rest of the court,
as good guards do, where she can adjust on the fly and continue to make plays
for her team. Sending pinpoint passes for her teammates to hit shots in rhythm,
Parks drastically lowers the scoring difficulty for others on the floor.

Part of why Parks is so effective at finding the middle of
the defense and getting downhill to the paint is her exceptional ballhandling
skills. She is Houdini-esque with the ball in her hands, slipping through
narrowing spaces and cutting on a dime to keep plays alive. Already with a
solid understanding of change-of-pace dribbling, Parks has a multitude of ways
to keep defenders on their heels and frequently chasing her down the floor. The
combination of her physicality, speed and skillset makes for a fun show each
time she steps on the court.

Keeley takes the handoff, sizes up the double team and is able to split it moving into the lane. She’s equally as dangerous on the defensive
side of the ball for opposing offenses to face. She is very aware of developing
plays and has a knack for placing herself in the ideal position to stop penetration
or make a play. Her long frame is extremely disruptive regardless of who she’s
guarding. The constant pressure Parks applies on the defensive end results in forced
errors, sloppy passes and a plethora of outcomes that benefit her team.

More than happy to take on the toughest defensive
assignments, Parks moves her feet as well as anybody and frustrates
ballhandlers for the entirety of the possession. Her sound principles as a team
defender make her a reliable asset on the court in defensive rotations and
weakside help. However, Parks awareness on the floor also allows for her to capitalize
on moments of inattention from opposing ballhandlers who turn their backs away
from her. Her acceleration makes it easy to poke the ball free and create Fastbreak
opportunities for herself or her team.

It’s this kind of playmaking that makes Parks such an asset on both ends of the floor. Her energy and production are constant leading to momentum-building efforts and winning plays. She finds ways to wear down her opponents and only seems to get better as the games progress.

Keeley is hit with a double screen, which she is able to recover by going beneath it.
