The first NBA playoff games were very much in our favor, as the record resulted in a 5-1 weekend. Continuing with the two game slate tonight, I’m hoping for sustained success!
5* Brooklyn Nets +8.5 @ Philadelphia 76ers: I picked the Nets to win this series and Saturday’s result was a great start towards that becoming true. The Nets are a feisty team and relied heavily on the pick and roll to get their offense flowing. Brooklyn has been able to allow Joel Embiid to get his production without hindering their overall chances of victory. However, word has trickled in that Embiid’s knee injury may be more severe than thought and is questionable for tonight’s contest. The Sixers may be desperate for a W at home, but I like the Nets to keep it close again regardless of Embiid’s status.
4* Los Angeles Clippers +14 @ Golden State Warriors: The champs showcased their elite talent midway through game 1 at home vs the Clips. Doc Rivers placed pesky guard Patrick’s Beverley on MVP-candidate Kevin Durant for most of the game, by the jawwing and frustration resulted in the ejection of both players later in the game. I expect the same matchup tonight and it will be interesting how the pair perform under the circumstances of last game. Forward Montrezl Harrell was huge bonus for the Clippers hitting 11-15 shots for 26 points. Look for the athletic forward to continue causing problems against a less athletic DeMarcus Cousins. Key factors for me tonight are technical fouls and Landry Shamet. The rookie guard was 1-6 from the field and all shots were from beyond the arc. If Shamet hit 1-2 more shots and the Clippers don’t have 2+ technicals more than Golden state, this game is in single digits. Doc will have issues shores up tonight.
